What a happy Friday it is for my parents! During the last big rainstorm my parents had a few leaks in their roof that made way to the inside and caused a bit of trouble. My dad took the time to look up a notable roofer and called Dean at DDK Roofing for a quote for a new roof. Dean came while my mom was working and spoke to my dad. He told my dad that there were five holes up top that he happily patched to ensure they'd be okay for future storms. While discussing cost of a new roof, the pandemic, and other oddities he noticed my dad wasn't a typical 63-year-old just at home for the day because he was 'enjoying early retirement'. He noticed that my dad was at home, unable to work, not because of a pandemic but because of his challenging journey with Parkinson's Disease that leads to many daily limitations. Dad said he had to talk to my mom about the cost and thanked him endlessly for patching the roof and his general care of the leaks. On my dad's birthday, they received a phone call from Dean. He told my mom he hadn't been able to stop thinking about my dad and how challenging life must be and at such a 'young' age. Dean acknowledged that my mom is working as a front-line worker during the pandemic and that it is clear my parents work tirelessly to live a positive, happy and healthy life despite their setbacks. He told my parents he would be coming July 3rd to put on a gorgeous roof for them, with 30-year warranty and best-of-the-best because they deserve it and don't deserve any stress of the financial burden it may be to them right now. We were all speechless, shocked and so incredibly grateful for such an amazing and generous act of kindness for my parents. They are SO deserving of the old and my heart bursts that a stranger was able to see this just through conversation with my dad. We need more people in the world like Dean. As he's up on a hot roof today on the Friday of Canada Day weekend likely with a big feel-good smile on his face, I did not want his act of generosity to go unnoticed. What a guy! What a Canadian! We're forever grateful and certain that positive karma is coming his way!
